How to Hire Revenue Operations Professionals for European SaaS

Revenue Operations is one of the most misunderstood functions in scaling SaaS companies. Many founders see it as a fancy title for a CRM administrator. In reality, RevOps is the discipline that makes revenue predictable — and in a European SaaS business operating across multiple markets, it's the difference between scaling efficiently and burning cash on disconnected processes.

What Revenue Operations Actually Means

RevOps is the alignment of people, processes, and technology across the entire revenue engine — sales, marketing, and customer success. The goal is to remove friction, improve data quality, and give leadership a single source of truth for pipeline, forecast, and performance.

In practice, a RevOps professional manages the CRM and connected tools, builds reporting dashboards, designs compensation plans, sets territory and quota structures, and identifies where revenue is leaking. They're the person who looks at the funnel end-to-end and asks: where are we losing deals, and why?

Why RevOps Matters More in European SaaS

When a SaaS company operates across multiple European markets, the complexity multiplies. You might have SDRs in Barcelona covering the DACH region, AEs in Amsterdam managing Southern Europe, and a customer success team split between three time zones. Each team uses the same CRM but follows different processes, logs data differently, and reports in different formats.

Without RevOps, leadership ends up making decisions based on inconsistent data — or worse, no data at all. A strong RevOps hire creates standardisation across markets without killing local flexibility. They ensure that a deal logged in Germany follows the same qualification criteria as one in France, so the forecast actually means something.

When to Hire Your First RevOps Person

The typical trigger is 15–25 people in revenue-facing roles. Before that point, a VP of Sales or Head of Marketing can usually manage the tooling and reporting themselves. Beyond that, the manual effort of maintaining clean data, building forecasts, and reconciling reports across teams becomes unsustainable.

Other signals that it's time: your sales team complains constantly about the CRM, your forecast accuracy is below 70%, you're spending more on tools than you can justify, or your churn analysis takes a week to produce instead of an hour.

What to Look For in a RevOps Hire

Technical fluency is the baseline. Your RevOps hire needs deep experience with your CRM (Salesforce or HubSpot in most European SaaS companies), comfort with data analysis, and familiarity with the broader revenue tech stack — outreach tools, conversation intelligence, CPQ software, and analytics platforms.

But the best RevOps professionals are not just technicians. They're commercial thinkers who understand the business behind the data. They can look at a pipeline report and tell you not just what's happening, but what to do about it. They can push back on a sales leader who wants to change the forecast, and they can translate a CFO's reporting requirements into CRM configuration.

European-Specific Considerations

For a RevOps role covering European markets, look for candidates who have operated across multiple countries. Understanding the nuances of different market structures — how enterprise sales cycles differ between Germany and Spain, how channel partnerships work in France versus the UK — is valuable. Multilingual ability is a plus, though less critical than for customer-facing roles.

How to Structure the Hiring Process

RevOps is a hybrid role, so the interview process should test both technical and strategic thinking. A practical exercise works well: give candidates a messy dataset or a broken CRM workflow and ask them to diagnose the problem and propose a solution. This reveals whether they can think systematically and communicate clearly — two skills that matter more than knowing every feature of a specific tool.

Include stakeholders from sales, finance, and marketing in the process. RevOps serves all three, and each will have different expectations. A sales leader wants faster processes and better leads; finance wants accurate forecasts; marketing wants clean attribution. The right hire can balance all three.
